iPad 5 Wi-Fi Left Speaker Replacement Guide: Step-by-Step DIY

Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 55 Steps

Ready to swap out the left-hand speaker in your iPad 5 Wi-Fi? Awesome! Just a heads up: when you’re isolating the battery with a battery blocker, take it easy! Those battery contacts can be a bit delicate, and we definitely don’t want to cause any irreversible damage to the logic board. If you decide to skip the battery isolation, steer clear of metal tools unless absolutely necessary (like for those pesky screws) to keep the battery and sensitive circuit components safe. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair!

Step 1

– Warm up your iOpener and give it a cozy two-minute hug on the left edge of your device.

Tools Used
  1. iOpener

Step 2

– As the adhesive loosens, take a moment to peek at these delicate areas that are just dying to be pried:

Step 3

– Pull the blue handle back to unlock the Anti-Clamp’s arms.

– Rest your iPad on an object so it’s level between the suction cups.

– Put the suction cups in the middle of the left edge—one on the top and one on the bottom.

– Hold the bottom of the Anti-Clamp steady and press down firmly on the top cup to create suction. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair

Step 4

– Give that blue handle a tug forward to lock those arms in place.

– Turn the handle clockwise a full 360 degrees or until the cups start to stretch.

– Ensure the suction cups stay aligned. If they slip out of alignment, loosen the cups a bit and realign the arms.

Step 5

– Take a breather for a minute to let that adhesive loosen up and create a little gap for you.

– If your screen isn’t warming up enough, feel free to grab a hair dryer and gently warm up the left edge of the iPad.

– Once the Anti-Clamp has done its magic and there’s a nice gap, slide an opening pick under the digitizer.

– Go ahead and skip the next step.

Step 6

– Once the screen has been gently warmed up, grab a suction handle and attach it snugly to the left side of the screen.

– Use the suction handle to lift the screen, creating a small gap between the digitizer and the frame.

– Carefully slide an opening pick into this gap to separate the digitizer from the frame.

Tools Used
  1. Suction Handle

Step 7

– Pop in a second opening pick right where you made that gap.

– Gently slide the pick down towards the bottom-left corner of your device to break free the adhesive.

– Keep that pick in the bottom-left corner to stop the adhesive from sticking back together.

Step 8

– If your opening pick gets caught up in the sticky stuff, just give it a roll along the iPad’s edge to keep on separating that adhesive. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair

Step 9

– Gently slide the trusty opening pick towards the top-left corner of the device to work that adhesive apart.

– Keep the pick snug in the top-left corner to make sure that adhesive doesn’t sneakily seal back up.

Step 10

– Get your iOpener nice and toasty, then gently press it onto the top edge of your device for a cozy two minutes.

Step 11

– Gently glide the pick around the top-left corner of your device to break free from the adhesive’s grip.

Step 12

– Gently glide the opening pick along the top edge of your device, making sure to pause just before you hit that front camera. You got this!

Step 13

– Gently ease the pick out until just the tip is between the digitizer and the frame.

– Slide the pick over the front camera to loosen the adhesive.

– Leave the pick close to the right side of the front camera before moving on.

Step 14

– Pop that pick back in and give it a little shimmy towards the top-right corner of your device to fully break free the top adhesive. You’re almost there!

– Keep that pick in place at the top-right corner to make sure the adhesive doesn’t pull a fast one and stick back down.

Step 15

– Warm up your iOpener and pop it on the right edge of your device for two minutes. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

– Pop a new opening pick into that gap you just made at the bottom edge of your iPad.

– Gently glide the pick over the antenna, but stop just before you hit the home button.

– Keep the pick to the left of the home button and get ready for the next step.

Step 21

– Pop in an opening pick right into the gap you cleverly carved out.

– Glide the pick beneath the home button and towards the bottom-right corner, ensuring only the tip sneaks between the digitizer and the frame.

Step 22

– Slide the pick back in and gently glide it toward the home button to fully detach that pesky bottom adhesive. You’re doing great!

– Make sure to leave the pick to the right of the home button as you move on to the next step. Keep it up!

Step 26

– While gently holding the digitizer in place, slip an opening pick between the two display cables to break free the last bit of that sticky adhesive.

Step 27

– Once you’ve successfully separated all that sticky adhesive, gently open the digitizer like a book and lay it down parallel to your iPad. Easy peasy!

– When it’s time to put everything back together, make sure to clean off any leftover adhesive from the frame—and the digitizer if you’re reusing it—using some isopropyl alcohol. Then, stick on our
