iPhone 11 SIM Card Reader Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 32 Steps
The iPhone 11’s SIM card reader is a separate module, so you can swap it out without messing with the logic board. If your SIM card or cellular connection is acting up, giving the SIM reader a replacement might just do the trick.
Step 1
Before diving in, make sure your iPhone battery is under 25% charged. A lithium-ion battery with juice still in it can be a firecracker if poked the wrong way—let’s keep it cool and safe!
Popping open your iPhone’s display means saying goodbye to its waterproof seals. Make sure you have new seals ready to go before moving forward, or be extra careful to keep your phone away from any liquids if you’re putting it back together without swapping them out.
- Before you get hands-on, give your iPhone a nap and turn it off.
- Show those two 6.7 mm pentalobe screws at the bottom some love—unscrew them and set them aside.
Step 2
Pushing your opening pick in too deep can mess up your device—mark your pick to keep things safe and sound.
Feel free to notch other corners of your pick with different measurements for extra control.
Or, stick a coin on your pick about 3 mm from the tip to act as a handy depth guide.
- Measure about 3mm from the tip and use a permanent marker to make a small mark on the opening pick. It's like giving your tool a little guide so it knows where to start!
Step 3
Don't forget your safety glasses! They'll shield your eyes from any rogue glass bits that might pop loose during the fix.
Got a cracked screen on your iPhone? No worries! Just grab some tape and cover that glass to keep any further damage at bay and protect yourself while you tackle the repair.
And if you're really stuck, a little superglue can help you stick that suction cup right to the screen. You've got this!
- Cover the entire iPhone screen with overlapping strips of clear packing tape until it's fully wrapped.
- If the suction cup refuses to stick in the upcoming steps, try folding a sturdy piece of tape (like duct tape) into a little handle and use that to lift the screen instead.
Step 4
For the next three moves, we're showing off the Anti-Clamp—a nifty tool that makes opening up your device a breeze. If you don't have one handy, go ahead and skip ahead three steps for another way to get the job done.
Want the full rundown on using the Anti-Clamp? Check out the dedicated guide for all the details.
If your iPhone feels like it’s been coated in butter and the Anti-Clamp keeps slipping, slap a bit of tape on it to give yourself some extra grip.
- Pull that blue handle back like you're opening a secret vault—this unlocks the Anti-Clamp’s arms.
- Slide the arms onto either side of your iPhone, left or right, your choice.
- Place the suction cups near the bottom edge, one up top, one down low—think of it as giving your phone a gentle bear hug.
- Squeeze the cups together so they stick to your phone’s surface.
Step 5
- Slide that blue handle forward—arms locked and loaded.
- Spin the handle all the way around (yep, a full 360!) or until you see the cups start to stretch.
- Keep an eye on those suction cups; they need to stick together like besties. If they start drifting apart, loosen things up and get them back in line.
Step 6
Turn no more than a quarter at a time, then pause for a minute. Let the Anti-Clamp do its thing while you take a breather!
Feeling a bit adventurous? You can totally bring in the heat with a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate! Just remember, too much heat can be a party crasher for your display or internal battery, so handle with care and keep the vibes chill.
If the Anti-Clamp isn't quite cutting it and you need a bit more space, give it another blast of heat and turn that handle a quarter turn. You've got this!
- Warm up an iOpener and thread it carefully through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.
- Fold the iOpener so it rests along the bottom edge of the iPhone.
- Hold tight for one minute to let the adhesive soften and create a little gap for opening.
- Gently slide an opening pick into the gap between the screen and the plastic bezel—avoid inserting it under the screen itself.
- Skip the next three steps.

Step 7
Gently warming up the bottom edge of your iPhone will loosen up the adhesive holding the display in place, making it way easier to pop open.
- Grab a hairdryer, heat gun, or an iOpener and gently warm up the lower edge of your iPhone for about a minute to loosen things up.

Step 8
- Grab that suction handle and place it gently on the bottom edge of your phone. Just make sure to avoid the curved glass bits—those are a no-go zone!

Step 9
The adhesive keeping the display stuck is super tough, so making that first little gap takes some serious muscle. If it’s being stubborn, try heating it up a bit more and gently rocking the screen back and forth—that’ll loosen the glue enough to slide your tool in without drama.
- Grab the suction cup and pull up steadily and firmly to gently create a small gap between the front panel and the back case.
- Slide an opening pick into the gap beneath the screen and the plastic bezel—make sure you're not wedging it under the screen itself!
Step 10
Keep your pick insertion to under 3 mm to avoid poking around where you shouldn’t and accidentally messing up those delicate inner parts.
- Gently slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and glide it up the left side of your iPhone, carefully cutting through the adhesive that’s keeping the display stuck in place.
Step 11
Watch out for the delicate cables on the right side of your iPhone! Keep your pick away from there – you don’t want to accidentally mess up those wires.
Step 12
Be careful not to insert your pick more than 3 mm in—going too deep could mess with the display cables.
- Slide your pick back into the bottom edge of the iPhone, then gently work it up the right side to keep peeling away that stubborn adhesive.
Step 13
The top edge of the display is held in place by a mix of glue and clips. It might take a little extra effort to free it, but don't worry, you've got this!
- Carefully tug down on the right side of the display—think of it as gently coaxing it toward the Lightning port.
- Slip your pick into the top-right corner of your phone, like you’re sneaking it into a secret clubhouse.
Step 14
Keep your pick to a maximum depth of 3 mm, or you might accidentally poke the Face ID sensor array!
- Gently tug the display downward toward the Lightning port. Keep pulling until you've made enough space for the pick to slide in.
- Now, take your pick and slide it up to the top-left corner. Use it to slice through any remaining adhesive that’s still holding the display in place.
Step 15
- Give that little tab on the suction cup a gentle tug to pop it off the front panel.
Step 16
Hold your horses! Don't go fully separating the display just yet; there are some delicate ribbon cables still connecting it to the iPhone's logic board.
- Let's get this iPhone party started! Gently swing the display upwards from the left side, just like opening a book.
- Now, give that display a sturdy prop to lean on – it deserves a break!
- When it's time to put it all back together, lay the display carefully in its rightful spot, align those clips along the top edge, and give the top edge a little nudge to snap it into place. If it’s being a bit stubborn and doesn’t click easily, take a moment to check those clips around the display's perimeter – make sure they’re not feeling bent out of shape!
Step 17
Handle those display cables with care—no need to give them a workout or a tear!
- To get to those sneaky screws in the next step, just give your display a little tilt by gently lifting its lower edge. You've got this!
Step 18
As you go through this repair, keep an eye on your screws and remember where each one came from. It's like a puzzle – every piece has its perfect spot!
- Grab your Y000 driver and carefully remove the three 1.1 mm screws holding down the battery connector bracket.
- When putting everything back together, this is a perfect moment to power on your iPhone and give all the functions a quick test before sealing the display. Don’t forget to shut it down completely again before moving forward.
Step 19
- Take off the bracket and set it aside like a pro.
Step 20
Careful now—try not to mess up the black silicone seal hugging this and other board connections. These little guys are the unsung heroes, keeping water and dust out like champs!
- Grab a spudger or your clean fingernail and gently lift the battery connector out of its spot on the logic board.
- Carefully bend the connector a bit away from the board so it doesn't accidentally make contact with the socket.

Step 27
- Take out the three Phillips screws holding down the SIM card reader — yes, all three!
- Next up, remove the grounding bracket that’s held in place by the last screw.
- One screw is 1.5 mm long.
- Another one measures 1.9 mm.
- And the last screw securing the grounding bracket is 1.6 mm.
Step 28
In a pinch, a small flathead screwdriver can do the trick—but handle with care! Keep a steady hand to avoid slipping and causing a mess with surrounding parts.
- Grab your trusty standoff driver and carefully remove the 3.1mm screw that’s holding the SIM card reader connector bracket in place.
Step 29
- Pop off that SIM reader connector bracket like a pro.
Step 30
- As you carefully lift the Lightning connector flex cable to the side, grab your trusty spudger and use its pointy end to gently pry up and disconnect the SIM card reader flex cable. You've got this!
