iPhone 13 Pro Max Loudspeaker Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 29 Steps
Follow this guide to swap out the loudspeaker in your iPhone 13 Pro Max with ease and confidence.
Step 1
Heads up! Before diving in, make sure your iPhone battery is below 25%. A fully charged lithium-ion battery can be a bit feisty and may catch fire or even explode if accidentally punctured. Let's keep things safe and sound while we work our magic!
Opening up your iPhone's display will break its waterproof seal, so make sure you’ve got some replacement seals on hand before diving in. If you’re reassembling without new seals, just be extra cautious with liquids! We don’t want to end up with a soggy phone, do we?
- Make sure to power off your iPhone before diving into the teardown.
- Take out the two 6.8 mm-long pentalobe P2 screws located at the bottom edge of the iPhone.
Step 2
Be careful not to push your opening pick in too deep, as it might cause some damage to your device. Marking your pick is a smart move to keep everything safe and sound!
Feel free to get creative and mark all corners of your pick with different measurements – it’s a fun way to keep track!
Another nifty trick is to tape a coin about 3 mm from the tip of a pick. It’s a simple yet effective way to help guide your tool.
- Grab your opening pick, measure 3 mm from the tip, and mark it with a permanent marker—precision is key!
Step 3
Put on those safety glasses to keep your peepers safe from any sneaky glass bits that might pop loose during the repair!
Got a cracked iPhone screen? No worries! Tape over the glass to keep the cracks in check and avoid any surprise cuts while you get it fixed.
If things get tricky, superglue that suction cup right onto the screen. It’ll stick, so you can stay focused on getting it done.
- Start by layering those clear packing tape strips over your iPhone's screen until the entire face is nicely covered. It's like giving your phone a protective blanket!
- If the suction cup isn't cooperating in the next steps, no worries! Just take a sturdy piece of tape (like duct tape) and fold it into a handy little handle. Use that to gently lift the screen instead!

Step 4
The next three steps will walk you through using the Anti-Clamp, a handy tool we've designed to make opening your device a breeze. If you’re not using the Anti-Clamp, just skip ahead three steps for another approach.
For detailed instructions on how to work the Anti-Clamp, check out this guide.
If your iPhone’s surface feels a bit too slick for the Anti-Clamp to get a good grip, try adding some tape to create a bit more traction.
- Give that blue handle a gentle tug backward to release the Anti-Clamp's arms.
- Carefully glide the arms over the left or right edge of your iPhone.
- Place the suction cups close to the bottom edge of your iPhone—one on the front and the other on the back.
- Squeeze those cups together to create a solid suction on the spot you want!
Step 5
- Give that blue handle a little push away from the hinge to kickstart the opening mode.
- Now, twist the handle clockwise until you notice those suction cups beginning to stretch.
- Keep an eye on those suction cups to ensure they're in sync. If they start to veer out of alignment, just loosen them slightly and give the arms a quick realignment.
Step 6
Turn no more than a quarter turn at a time, then take a chill minute to let the Anti-Clamp and a bit of patience do their magic.
For detailed tips on getting the most out of your hair dryer, take a peek at this guide.
If the Anti-Clamp isn't giving you the gap you need, don't worry! Just warm it up a bit more and give that handle a little twist—about a quarter turn should do the trick!
- Place your iPhone on a solid surface like a hardcover book so it sits steady and flat—this makes the next steps way easier to handle.
- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the bottom edge of the iPhone until it feels just a bit too hot to hold comfortably.
- Give it a minute to let the adhesive soften up and create a small gap ready for opening.
- Slide an opening pick under the screen’s plastic bezel once the Anti-Clamp has made enough space to work with.
- Skip the next three steps.

Step 7
Keep that hair dryer on the move! Staying in one spot for too long is a no-go.
- Grab a hair dryer or heat gun and warm up the bottom edge of your iPhone for about 90 seconds, or until the screen feels just a bit too toasty to touch.

Step 8
The adhesive sealing the screen is super tough; getting that first little gap open takes some serious muscle. If it’s being stubborn, crank up the heat a bit and gently rock the screen back and forth to loosen things up until you can slip your tool in. Keep it cool—you got this!
- Stick a suction cup near the bottom edge of your phone, but keep it a little away from the very edge of the glass.
- Give the suction cup a steady, firm pull to gently create a small gap between the screen and the frame.
- Slide an opening pick into the gap just beneath the screen’s plastic bezel to start prying it open.

Step 9
- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the right side of your iPhone (the one with the power button) for about 90 seconds, or until the screen feels just a bit too toasty to touch.

Step 10
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder not to poke your pick in deeper than 3 mm, or you might end up giving the internal parts a bit of a rough time.
- Gently slide the opening pick around the bottom right corner of your iPhone to break that adhesive seal.
- Keep on sliding the pick up the right edge of the iPhone until you reach the top right corner.
- Once you’re at the top right corner, just leave the pick in place for now before moving on.
Step 11
- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the top edge of the iPhone for about 90 seconds, or until the screen feels just a bit too toasty to handle.

Step 12
Keep your pick insertion under 3 mm to avoid messing with the top sensors — a little goes a long way!
- Gently glide your opening pick around the top right edge of the iPhone to break free that sneaky adhesive.
- Keep the pick snugly in the top left corner while you tackle the next steps.
Step 13
- Grab your trusty hair dryer and give the left edge of your iPhone a warm hug for about 90 seconds, or until it feels just a tad too hot to touch. You're doing great!

Step 14
Heads up! There are some fragile cables hanging out along the left edge of your iPhone. Avoid poking your pick in there or you might cause some damage.
Step 15
Gently twist and turn; it's like a little dance with your device!
If the adhesive is putting up a fight, give the left edge a little heat love.
- Slide a second opening pick into the bottom left corner of your iPhone.
- Gently twist both picks at the same time until the clips along the left edge pop free.
Step 16
Hold up! Don’t yank the display all the way off yet—there are still some delicate ribbon cables hooking it up to the iPhone’s logic board.
- Take your suction handle off the screen.
- Turn your iPhone so the right side is facing you.
- Open your iPhone by lifting the display from the right edge, just like flipping open a book.
- Prop the display up by leaning it against something stable while you work on the phone.
- When putting it back together, set the display in place, line up the clips along the top edge, and gently press the top edge down before snapping the rest of the display in. If it doesn’t click easily, double-check the clips around the edge to make sure none are bent or out of place.

Step 17
As you navigate this repair journey, remember to keep each screw under your watchful eye and return it to its original home. This little step will save your iPhone from any unnecessary drama.
- Grab your trusty Y000 screwdriver and let's tackle those three 1.3 mm screws holding the battery connector cover in place. You've got this!
- Now that you've conquered the screws, why not power up your iPhone and check if everything's working like a charm before sealing it back up? Just remember to give your iPhone a complete power-down before diving back into the next steps!
Step 18
- Take off the battery connector cover to get things rolling.
Step 19
Handle the black silicone seal wrapping around this and other board connections with care! These little heroes do a fantastic job of keeping out pesky water and dust. Let's keep them safe for optimum protection!
- Grab that trusty spudger or your clean fingernail and gently nudge the battery connector up from its cozy home on the logic board. You've got this!
- Now, give the connector a little bend away from the board. This will keep it from accidentally touching the socket and powering up the phone while you're deep in your repair zone.

Step 20
- Grab your trusty spudger or a clean fingernail and delicately nudge the display connector up from its cozy spot on the logic board. Gentle does it!
- When it's time to reconnect, be a connector pro! Align the connectors just right and give a gentle press on one side until you hear that satisfying click, then do the same on the other side. Avoid pressing down in the middle, as misalignment can lead to bent pins, and nobody wants that! Remember, if this gets tricky, feel free to schedule a repair for expert help.

Step 24
- Start by carefully detaching the display assembly.
- When putting it all back together, take a breather here if you want to swap out that waterproof adhesive around the display edges.
Step 25
- Grab your trusty Phillips driver and let's tackle those four tiny 1.5 mm screws holding the loudspeaker in place:
- You'll spot two larger-headed screws that are ready to be removed.
- And don't forget about the two smaller-headed screws, they're just as important!
Step 26
- Gently slide an opening pick between the top edge of the taptic engine and that sticky strip. You're on the right track, just keep it smooth and steady!
Step 27
- Carefully take out the loudspeaker.
Step 28
If your new part didn't bring along the plastic strip at the top of the loudspeaker, no worries! Just give it a little transfer to your shiny replacement part and you're good to go.
- Gently use your fingers to peel away the adhesive strip from the loudspeaker, like you're unveiling a surprise gift!
Step 29
- Give your new replacement part a thorough buddy check against the original—you might have to move some leftover components or peel off the sticky back from the new part before diving into installation.
- To piece your device back together, just retrace your steps in the opposite order, easy peasy!
- When it’s time to say farewell to your old electronics, make sure to send them to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.
- If things didn’t go quite as planned, don’t stress! Try out some basic troubleshooting, or if you're feeling stuck, you can always schedule a repair to get some expert assistance.
