iPhone 14 Pro Earpiece Speaker Replacement

Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 25 Steps

Ready to swap out a busted earpiece speaker on your iPhone 14 Pro? This guide is based on the A2890 (international) model, but don’t worry—whether your phone’s from Timbuktu or Topeka, the steps should line up. When you put everything back together, grab some replacement adhesive to stick the screen down snugly. Keep in mind, the better the adhesive job, the better your odds of keeping water out. Official IP (Ingress Protection) rating won’t stick around after this fix, though.

Step 1

- Before you start, shut down your iPhone—let’s not give it any surprises.

- Take out the two 6.8 mm pentalobe P2 screws at the bottom edge. They’re hanging out near the charging port, waiting for their moment in the spotlight.

Step 2

- Grab your opening pick and measure about 3 mm from the tip. Mark that spot with a permanent marker so you know exactly where to start. Easy, right?

Step 3

- Cover the iPhone's screen with overlapping strips of clear packing tape until the entire front is sealed up nice and snug.

- If the suction cup refuses to stick in the next steps, no worries! Just fold a sturdy piece of tape (like duct tape) into a little handle and use that to lift the screen instead.

Step 4

- Grab the blue handle and pull it back to release the Anti-Clamp’s arms.

- Slide those arms onto either the left or right side of your iPhone.

- Place the suction cups close to the bottom edge—one on the front and one on the back.

- Give the cups a good squeeze to create a solid seal where you need it.

Step 5

- Slide that blue handle forward like a pro to lock those arms in place.

- Give the handle a full 360-degree spin (yep, a whole circle!) until you notice the cups start stretching.

- Keep an eye on those suction cups—make sure they stay lined up with each other. If they start to wander, loosen them just a bit, realign the arms, and you’re good to go.

Step 6

- Place your iPhone on a solid surface like a hardcover book so it stays put and level—this makes the next steps way easier.

- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the bottom edge of your iPhone until it’s just too hot to comfortably touch.

- Hold tight for one minute to let the adhesive soften and create a small gap.

- Once the Anti-Clamp has opened up enough space, slide an opening pick underneath the screen’s plastic bezel.

- Skip the next two steps.

Step 7

- Grab your hair dryer or heat gun and warm up the bottom edge of your iPhone for about 90 seconds. You’re aiming for ‘just too hot to touch’—like a fresh pizza, but for your phone.

Step 8

- Grab a suction handle and gently stick it onto the bottom edge of the screen, steering clear of the very tip of the glass.

- With a steady and firm pull on that suction cup, create a little wiggle room between the screen and the frame.

- Slide an opening pick into the newfound gap beneath the screen's plastic bezel.

Step 9

- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the right edge of your iPhone (the one with the power button) for about 90 seconds, or until the screen feels just a bit too hot to handle.

Step 10

- Keep sliding the pick up along the right edge until you reach the top right corner.

- Keep the pick in place at the top right corner before moving on to the next step.

Step 11

- Grab a hair dryer and warm up the top edge of your iPhone for about 90 seconds—or until it feels just a bit too toasty to keep your fingers on.

- Gently slide the opening pick around the top right corner of your iPhone to loosen that stubborn top adhesive.

- Keep the pick wedged in the top left corner before moving on to the next step.

Step 13

- Grab your hair dryer and warm up the left edge of your iPhone for about 90 seconds, or until it’s just a bit too hot to touch. This will help loosen things up for the next step!

Step 14

Step 15

- Pop a second opening pick into the bottom left corner of your iPhone.

- Give both picks a twist at the same time until the left edge snaps free.

Step 16

- Gently peel off your suction handle from the screen.

- Turn your iPhone so the right edge is facing you.

- Open up your iPhone by swinging the screen upwards from the right side, just like opening a book cover.

- Prop the screen against something sturdy to keep it upright while you work on the phone.

- When putting it back together, place the screen carefully, line up the clips along the top edge, and press the top edge down gently before snapping the rest of the screen into place. If it doesn’t snap easily, double-check the clips around the edges to make sure they’re not bent or out of shape.

Step 17

- Grab your trusty Y000 screwdriver and let's tackle those eight screws holding down the battery connector cover:

- Now's a perfect moment to power up your iPhone and make sure everything is working like a charm before sealing the screen back in. Just remember to turn your iPhone off completely before diving back in!

- Five screws measuring 1.3 mm long

- Two screws measuring 1.6 mm long

- One screw measuring 1.9 mm long

Step 18

- Grab the connector cover with your trusty tweezers and gently slide it down to free up those flex cables.

- Carefully remove the connector cover.

Step 19

- Grab the pointy end of your spudger and gently pry the battery cable connector straight up to unplug it from its socket.

- Once disconnected, nudge the connector a bit away from the logic board so it doesn’t accidentally touch the socket and power up the phone while you’re working.

Step 20

- Grab your trusty spudger and use the pointed end to gently lift the first display cable right out of its socket. It's like a little dance – just pry it straight up!

- When it’s time to reconnect, make sure to align those connectors perfectly. Press down on one side until you hear that satisfying click, then do the same on the other side. Remember, no pressing in the middle – we don’t want any bent pins ruining the party! If things don't seem to fit, double-check that alignment before you go any further.

Step 22

- Carefully take off the screen.

- Clean the areas that need it with isopropyl alcohol (over 90%), then add fresh adhesive where it counts.

- When putting everything back together, feel free to stop here if you want to swap out the screen adhesives.

Step 23

- Grab your trusty Phillips screwdriver and go ahead and unscrew the two 1.6 mm screws that are keeping the earpiece speaker in place. It's a quick move, so no worries!

Step 24

- Slide the pointy end of a spudger under the right side of the earpiece speaker.

- Gently pry up with the spudger to free the earpiece speaker from its spot.

- Heads up: the top right corner of the earpiece speaker has a rubber gasket. When putting it back, make sure that gasket snugly fits into its groove in the frame.

Step 25

- Before sealing things up, power on your device and give it a quick test to make sure everything’s working smoothly.

- Take a moment to compare your replacement part with the original. You might need to swap over some bits or peel off any pesky adhesive backings from the new part before you get started.

- Now, time to put everything back together—just retrace your steps in reverse order.

- Don’t forget to take your old parts to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler. It’s the right thing to do!

- Something didn’t go quite as planned? No worries! Try a little troubleshooting, or if you’re still stuck, feel free to schedule a repair.
