The keyboard is made up of three main parts: the speaker cover, the heat sink, and the keyboard itself. To get that keyboard out, you’ll need to take these parts off first. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– Flip the device upside down, then find the battery latch near the front.
Step 2
– Slide the latch left to pop out the battery.
Step 3
Keep that battery safe and sound! Find a cozy spot for it while you work your magic.
– Keep that latch held tight and gently coax the battery out of your device. You’ve got this!
Step 4
– Find the latch for the CD-ROM Drive. It’s hiding, but you’ve got this!
Step 5
– Give that latch a little nudge to the right and watch the CD ROM drive pop free!
Step 6
Tuck the CD ROM drive somewhere safe and cozy.
– Keep that latch firmly in your grip and gently wiggle the CD-ROM Drive out of the device. You’ve got this!
Step 7
– Find that speaker cover!
Step 8
– Give each end of the speaker cover a good press and slide it to the left like you’re unveiling a surprise. You’ve got this!
Step 9
– Carefully lift the speaker cover to take it off.
Step 10
– Gently pop the keyboard up from the back using the wedge side of a spudger.

– Carefully raise the keyboard until just the ribbon cable is still connected.
Step 12
– Gently lift the keyboard away from the screen.
Step 13
– Find the six screws holding down the heatsink.
Step 14
– Grab your trusty Philips #1 screwdriver and gently remove those six screws holding the heatsink in place. You’ve got this!
Step 15
– Gently lift the heatsink from the side closest to the laptop screen. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair

– Pop off the heatsink.
Step 17
– Carefully lift the beige ribbon lock until it slides a bit on both sides, helping to free the ribbon cable from its connector. Keep it gentle and steady, and you’ll be on your way to a smooth repair!

– Unplug the ribbon cable with care.

– Time to say goodbye to the keyboard! Go ahead and detach it with confidence.
