Microsoft Surface Book 2 15″ Battery Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 8 Steps
Heads up! This guide skips a few steps, but here’s the scoop on swapping out the battery in your Microsoft Surface Book 2 15″. You’ll need to take out the motherboard, which is a real challenge—think extreme laptop gymnastics. The battery itself is glued down tight with some seriously stubborn adhesive. A little isopropyl alcohol can help loosen things up. Before you dive in, check the troubleshooting page for software fixes—most issues can be solved without cracking things open. If you get stuck along the way, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– Flip open the laptop and sit so the touchpad is hanging out on your left side—think of it as your trusty sidekick.
– Take a look at the tablet half of your laptop. Start at the hinge and count up six holes. Got it? Awesome!
Step 2
– Grab a paper clip and unfold it to give it some shape.
– Pop the paper clip into the sixth hole and give it a little push until you hear a satisfying click.
– Once that click rings in your ears, gently lift up the right side of the tablet from the base. You should feel it separate easily.
– Now that the right side is free, move on to the left side and lift it up too. You’ve got this!

Step 4
Avoid metal tools like the plague—they can scratch or damage the screen and internal components. Also, be gentle when inserting your tool—don’t push too far, or you might cut a ribbon cable or two. Take it slow and steady!
Gently grab a suction cup and use it to lift the screen away from the frame, just enough to make a little space between them.
– Grab your trusty plastic pick and gently slide it under the edge of the screen—think of it as opening a secret hatch.
– Work your way around the screen slowly, carefully separating the adhesive holding the screen to the frame. Take your time and keep it smooth—no need to rush the magic!
Step 5
– Gently lift up the screen, giving it some room to breathe.
– Carefully detach the ribbon cables connecting the screen’s underside to the motherboard, making sure not to tug too hard.
Step 6
– Grab your T3 Torx screwdriver and unscrew those eleven 4 mm screws holding the motherboard—easy peasy!
– Next, use the T3 Torx screwdriver again to remove the ten 2.5 mm screws from the top bar. You’re doing great!

Step 7
Handle those ribbon cables and wires with care – they’re delicate little things! A gentle touch goes a long way in keeping everything intact.
– Once you’ve taken out the screws from the top bar, gently lift it up and set it aside. Easy does it!
– Now, carefully lift the motherboard to remove it. Take your time, and it’ll come out smoothly!
Step 8
Take your time with this part. Gently remove the battery from the tablet—no prying, bending, or poking. You’ve got this!
Once everything has cooled down, dab a little isopropyl alcohol to help loosen any stubborn glue holding the battery to the case.
– Gently warm up the back of your tablet with an iOpener or a heat gun set to low—just enough to loosen up that stubborn battery adhesive.
– Grab a trusty guitar pick, plastic card, or nylon spudger and carefully work your way around the battery, slicing through the adhesive and lifting the battery out with patience and style.
Success!
