Microsoft Surface Pro 2 LCD Display Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 4 Steps
If your screen isn’t responding to touch, has cracks, or is flickering, giving your screen a fresh install might just do the trick. Sometimes, a little re-seating can fix these pesky issues and get your device back to behaving nicely. If you need help along the way, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
Before you dive in, make sure your Surface Pro 2 is powered down and unplugged—no one wants a shocking surprise!
Step 2
Keep those hands and peepers safe—steer clear of direct contact with the heating pad or heat gun, because they’re a bit too hot to handle!
The adhesive hangs out just beneath the darker edge around your display.
– Grab your heating pad or heat gun and give the edges of your screen a little warm-up. Focus on the area about an inch from the edge of the device, as that’s where the glue loves to hang out. A little heat here will soften things up and make the next steps a breeze.
Step 3
If the tool isn’t sliding easily under the screen, give it a quick reheat and try again. Sometimes a little extra warmth makes all the difference. If you need a hand, you can always schedule a repair.
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and a suction cup if you need a little extra push, then gently slide the edge of the opening tool under the corner of the screen. Go slow, you’re doing great!
– Now, carefully work the tool all the way around the screen’s edge, taking your time. It’s like peeling off a sticker, but with a bit more finesse.
Step 4
Keep an eye out for the tiny red connector—it’s the third one down and just waiting to be carefully disconnected. Remember, patience is key when handling these small parts. If you need a hand, you can always schedule a repair.
– Gently pull on the small tabs to disconnect the orange cables linking the screen to the motherboard. If they’re being stubborn, grab a nylon spudger and give them a little nudge.
– Let the glue chill for a bit before it touches anything else. It just needs a moment to cool down.
