Nokia Lumia 830 Headphone Jack Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 11 Steps
If your headphones are throwing a fit and only work with other devices but not your phone, it might be time to give that headphone jack a little TLC—or possibly a replacement!
Step 1
– Flip the phone so the screen is facing down, ready for the next step.
– Gently pry off the back cover by slipping your fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the slotted indent at the bottom of the device.
Step 2
The battery might be sticking down with some adhesive, making it a little tricky to get it out. Take your time, and with a little patience, you’ll get it out no problem!
– Slide the plastic opening tool under the notch at the bottom of the battery and gently lift it out, giving it a little nudge if needed.
Step 3
– Carefully peel off the black strips on both sides of the battery compartment to get started with your repair.
Step 4
Grab your T5 Torx screwdriver — all the screws in this job are that size. Easy peasy to keep track of.
– Start by removing the pair of 3.9mm silver screws tucked in at the bottom corner of the phone. Next, take out the five 2.5mm black screws lining up from top to bottom. If you need a hand along the way, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 5
– Grab a plastic opening tool and gently pry into the slots that hold the back cover in place.
– Carefully lift the back off the frame, making sure to tilt the bottom away first so the top can slide out smoothly.
– There are five slots along the inner wall of the battery compartment—start by pushing the side slots, then move to the top slot to free the back cover.
Step 6
– Gently lift the speaker out of the phone. It might need a little wiggling to set it free—just be patient and don’t force it!
Step 7
Gently lift the cord to avoid any damage—treat it like the precious gem it is!
– Keep your phone steady and grab the shiny metal end of the RF cable with those precise tweezers.
– The RF cable is the long, skinny wire that hugs the side of your phone.

Step 8
This tape isn’t glued to the vibrator motor at all. It’ll come up together with the motherboard. No need to worry about removing it separately. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
– Optional: Gently lift the copper tape at the top right corner of the phone using some precise tweezers.
– Slide the tip of your tweezers underneath the narrow strip of tape and carefully peel it away.

Step 9
– You’ve got five flex connectors chillin’ on the motherboard. They resemble little rectangular metal boxes with a slim strip attached, just hanging out.
– To unclip those connectors, grab your trusty plastic opening tool. Gently press the wedge end against the opposite side of the connector that has the strip, and give it a little pry. Easy peasy!
– Now, slide that plastic opening tool under the motherboard, right where those three prongs are sticking out at the bottom, and give the motherboard a gentle push to lift it out.
Step 10
– The headphone jack is at the top of the phone, sitting flush against a circular hole in the frame. Just a heads-up: this is a straightforward spot to spot, so take your time and handle it gently. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 11
– Carefully place the sharp end of the spudger against the tiny nub at the bottom of the headphone jack.
– Gently and steadily wiggle the headphone jack out of its cozy little slot.
