PlayStation 4 Pro Heat Pipe Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 15 Steps
Get ready to take apart your PS4 Pro! We’ll walk you through the steps to replace the heat pipe. It’s a process that will void your warranty and involves many steps. The heat pipe is located right in the middle of the PS4 Pro, which means you’ll need to remove components from both sides to get to it.
Step 1
– Let’s get started! Flip that console upside down and let’s get a look at what we’re working with.
– Now it’s time to get a little hands-on – use your finger to carefully pull and snap off the plastic cover over the hard drive. Easy peasy!
Step 2
– Grab your trusty Phillips #1 Screwdriver and twist out that lone screw keeping the hard drive caddy in place.
– Slide the hard drive caddy straight out like it’s no big deal.

Step 3
It might take a bit of muscle, so don’t hesitate to give your console a little extra love!
– Alright, flip that console so it’s right-side up!
– Now, grab those front corners like you mean it.
– Give ’em a good, upward pull until you hear a satisfying ‘click’!
– Once both corners are free, slide that cover backward and lift it right off. You got this!
Step 4
– Grab your T8 Torx Security screwdriver and take out those five screws from the device’s rear. You got this!
– Time to pull up and remove that metal plate! Easy peasy.
– FYI, there are two 31mm screws.
– Also, there are three 10mm screws for the 7000 models; If you’ve got a PS4 Pro 7100-series, look for two gray 10mm screws (check out the illustration – upper and lower screws). Keep up the good work!
Step 5
– Flip the console over so that the bottom side is now facing you. Nice and easy!
– Grab your trusty T8 Torx Security screwdriver and unscrew those black 7mm screws holding the back panel in place. (If you’ve got a 7000-series model, there’s three of ’em! For the 7100-series models, it’s just one screw in the middle and the warranty sticker on the left. You’ll nail this!)
– Time to remove the bottom cover just like you did with the top cover! Grab both sides, pull up gently until it clicks, then slide it right off. If you’re working on a 7100-series model, keep an eye on those two clips—they replace the screws on this model. You’ve got this!
Step 6
For those rockin’ the 7200-series, get ready to unleash your inner screw-turning wizard! These models have 13 extra 4mm screws that are chillin’ around the top and right sides of the metal plate, marked by nifty triangles. Keep an eye out, because other models might show this same style. You’re doing great—keep it up!
– Grab your T8 Torx security screwdriver and take out those eleven 10mm silver screws from the metal plate. You got this!
– Now, switch to your Phillips #1 screwdriver and remove the eleven 4mm black screws from the metal plate. Almost there!
– Time for the spudger! Gently disconnect the three antenna cables (two black and one white) by carefully prying them straight up from their sockets. Be careful and if you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 7
– Gently wiggle and then disconnect the white fan connector from its sunny yellow perch on the motherboard.
Step 8
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder: before you tug on that big blue cable, make sure to lift the tab first. Otherwise, you might end up giving the connection a bit of a rough time!
– Unplug the five little, blue low-profile cables from the metal plate.
– Flip up the retaining flap on the ZIF connector for the large ribbon cable.
– Gently pull the large ribbon cable out of its socket.
Step 9
– Lift and pop off that metal plate.
Step 10
Take it easy and don’t yank too hard; there’s still a connection holding things together at one spot.
– Alright, flip that console like a pancake so we can get to work on the good stuff up top!
– Give that power supply unit a gentle lift and set it right on the console. Treat it like it’s precious cargo!
– Now, grab that connector hiding behind the power supply and give it a firm, straight pull. You got this!
Step 11
If you’re tackling the 7200-series model, good news! That metal plate has already been taken off when you removed the larger motherboard plate. So, feel free to skip this step and keep cruising along!
– Let’s get started! Flip the console over, so the bottom is facing up – easy peasy!
– Now, grab your trusty Phillips #1 screwdriver and remove the eight 4mm screws on the metal plate with the X-like symbol. You got this!
– Time to get a little more aggressive – use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry off the metal plate with the X-like shape. You’re making great progress!

Step 12
For 7200-series models, you’ll find a curveball – a sleek (https://pollinations.ai/referral?topic=s-shaped%20metal%20plate) held in place by 2 screws. Don’t worry, it’s easy to work with!
– Grab your trusty Phillips #1 screwdriver and unscrew those four 13mm bad boys holding down the X-shaped metal plate underneath.
– Now, hold onto that X-shaped retaining bracket and give it a straight lift—it’s coming up easy peasy!

Step 13
– Grab the edge of that motherboard like a pro and gently lift it up to free it from the device—it’s all about finesse here, no brute force!
– When you’re ready to reassemble, follow this guide to reapply some fresh thermal paste between the motherboard and the metal plate—keep it cool and efficient!
Step 14
– Alright, grab your trusty Phillips #1 screwdriver and bid farewell to those two 6 mm silver screws securing the metal plate!
