Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 25 Steps
Heads up, tech champ! Keep in mind, some steps might be trickier than a cat in a yarn shop. If things get tangled, just hop on over to schedule a repair for some backup!
Follow this guide to swap out the motherboard. Get ready to bring your device back to life with some upbeat motherboard magic!
Step 1
You can totally rock the next four steps without a plastic opening tool, but hey, why risk those pesky clips? Grabbing a tool might just be your ticket to a clip-break-free victory!
– Wedge a plastic opening tool or your fingernail into the notch on the top of the phone, right between the rear case and the device body.
– Give that opening tool a gentle twist to pop open the clips holding the top part of the rear case in place.
Step 2
– Scoot your plastic opening tool to the left along the top edge, and give it another twist to crank up the space between the rear case and your beloved phone.
Step 3
– Keep cruising with that plastic opening tool around the top left corner’s edge. Just give the rear case a gentle nudge upwards as you go. You’re doing great!
Step 4
– Start your adventure on the top right side of the rear case and shimmy your pry tool down the right edge. Keep on prying and don’t be shy!
Step 5
You might have to wiggle the case a bit to free it from any sneaky clips still clinging to the bottom of the phone.
– Hoist that rear case off the phone like you’re lifting treasure from a sunken pirate ship!
Step 6
– No need for fancy tools here, just use your finger to pop this step off. It’s as easy as snapping your fingers!
– Now, let’s wedge a plastic opening tool right into that tiny notch above the battery. Like picking the lock to a treasure chest!
– Gently pry that battery out of its snug hidey-hole. It’s just like coaxing a cat out from under the bed!
Step 8
– Give your fingernail a workout by pushing the SIM card a tad further into its slot until you hear a satisfying click.
– Once you hear that click, let go! The card will make a little jump out of its slot.
– When putting it back together, just push the SIM card back into the slot until you hear that comforting click to know it’s snug and secure.
Step 9
– Give that SIM card a gentle nudge with your thumb to slide it out just enough to get a good grip on it.
– Now, grab that little escape artist and carefully pull the SIM card away from its cozy phone home.
Step 10
– Nudge your microSD card a tad deeper into its slot using your fingernail, until it makes a satisfying click.
– Once you hear that click, let go and the card will spring out ready to be used.
– When putting it back together, just press the microSD card back into the slot until you feel that click to know it’s securely in place.
Step 11
– Give the microSD card a gentle nudge with your thumb to coax it out of its cozy slot.
– Liberate the microSD card from its mobile confines.
Step 12
– Unscrew the ten 4.0 mm Phillips screws that are holding the midframe tight to the front panel assembly.
Step 13
The midframe just gives a little click when it snaps into place—super easy to lift off with barely a nudge!
– Get a hold of the plastic midframe on the left side with your thumb and forefinger and give it a gentle lift away from the phone. You’ve got this!
Step 14
Be sure to wiggle the connector free and not the socket! Wouldn’t want to upset the motherboard—it’s the heart of the party!
– Grab your plastic opening tool and gently pop the rear-facing camera connector off its throne on the motherboard.
Step 15
– Slide your plastic opening tool just outside the speaker area of the headphone jack/speaker combo. It’s like buttering toast—smooth and easy!
– Gently coax that headphone jack/speaker assembly up from the front assembly. Imagine it’s a little bird you’re helping out of its nest.
Step 16
– Yoohoo! Gently elevate the rockin’ headphone jack/speaker assembly right out of your Galaxy S III. There you go, superstar!
Step 17
Hold up, partner! Don’t yank out that front-facing camera just yet—it’s still hitched to the motherboard assembly under the ambient light sensor.
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently coax the front-facing camera connector out of its cozy home on the motherboard.
Step 18
– Gently lift the connector of the digitizer cable from its cozy home on the motherboard using a prying tool. Easy does it!
Step 20
– Pop the Wi-Fi antenna cable connector off its throne on the motherboard like a boss.
– Carefully scooch the cable out of the motherboard’s personal space.
Step 21
– Unscrew that lonely 3.0 mm Phillips screw holding the motherboard to the front panel assembly. Just one screw, you got this!
Step 22
– Gently hoist the bottom of the motherboard assembly away from the front panel assembly like you’re lifting a slice of pizza.
– Wiggle the motherboard assembly out from the front panel assembly, watching out for any sneaky cables that might catch.
Step 23
Time to flip the motherboard over! Let’s gently place it on a grounded surface, like a superhero setting down their shield. Keep it cool and grounded, just like you!
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently unplug the rear-facing camera connector from its cozy socket. You’ve got this!
