Ready to swap out that 16 megapixel rear-camera? Let’s get to it! First, you’ll want to carefully dismantle all the components that stand in your way. And hey, remember to handle your tools, like heat guns, with care—they may be handy, but they can also be a bit tricky. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– Pop your fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the notch by the rear camera.
– Carefully pry and twist off the flexible back cover.
Step 2
– Get ready to bring out your inner superhero by gently sliding a fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the cozy nook at the lower right corner of the battery.
– With grace and finesse, liberate the battery from its snug place in the device.
Step 3
– Easily pop out the SIM card using your fingertips
Step 4
Alright, it’s time to get a bit toasty with that heat gun! Remember, it can get pretty hot, so handle with care to keep both you and your device safe. Check out the heat gun’s manual for all the important safety tips to make sure this step goes smoothly. You’ve got this!
– First things first! Go ahead and take out the battery, SIM card, and MicroSD card. We want to keep those little guys safe from any heat shenanigans during the repair process.
– Now, grab your heat gun and hold it about 2-3 inches away from your phone. Gently warm up the display to help loosen that stubborn adhesive. Just a little love from the heat will do the trick!
Tools Used
Step 5
– Begin at the top left corner and gently slide a guitar pick between the display and the phone case. Remember, you’re doing great!
Step 6
Be sure to gently work your way around the edge of the phone’s display. There’s a sleek metal strip down at the bottom that links the display to the motherboard, and it’s a bit fragile, so tread lightly!
If you feel any resistance while prying, hit pause and warm things up a bit before trying again.
– Gently slide the pick into the edge of the display and wiggle it a bit to loosen things up. You’re doing great!
Step 7
If you encounter any resistance, just take a breather, regroup, and reapply some warmth before gently prying again.
– Grab that pick and carefully work it around the sides and bottom of the display, sliding it through like a boss.
Step 8
Feel free to take out the home button if you think it’s time for a little upgrade!
– With the trusty guitar pick in hand, gently lift the screen a tad.
Step 9
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder: don’t go yanking off that front panel completely. It’s still hanging on by a connector, and we want to keep everything intact!
If you’re planning to reuse that home button flex cable, tread carefully! Don’t let that cable get too cozy with the home button and risk a separation. Adhesive’s a tricky little thing and can cause a tear. The home button will still function, but the fingerprint scanner? Not so much. Keep it safe!
– Gently lift the upper end of the display assembly, but don’t take it off just yet!
Step 10
– Get ready to rock and roll! Use the sharp tip of a guitar pick to lift the front panel assembly cable connector straight up off its socket on the motherboard.
– Time to groove: Safely remove the front panel assembly from the phone.
Step 11
– Grab your trusty Phillips 0 screwdriver and say goodbye to those pesky 12 Phillips #0 screws!
Step 12
– Give a gentle upward nudge from the back of your phone (where the battery hangs out) to pop that big gray piece out!
Step 13
– Alright, you’ve got two parts in your hands now! To keep going, let’s focus on the piece that has the motherboard (that’s the one on the right side of the picture).
Step 14
– With a gentle touch or a trusty plastic opening tool, carefully detach the rear-facing camera from the motherboard. You’ve got this!
Step 15
– Now it’s time to carefully detach the rear-facing camera from the motherboard – just use your hands and a gentle touch to set it free.
