Sony Xperia Z Headphone Jack Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 18 Steps
Get ready to dive into the fun of fixing your phone! This guide will walk you through the steps to swap out that headphone jack like a pro.
Step 1
– Set your hair dryer to a medium heat setting—it’s showtime for that glue!
– Gently glide the hair dryer along the edges on the back of the phone, keeping it a few inches away. Let the warmth do its thing!
– Keep moving the dryer around for about a minute to loosen up the adhesive that’s holding your phone together. Patience, you’re doing great!
Step 2
Gently ease it back just enough to make a tiny opening.
– Give that adhesive a little TLC to loosen it up, then pop the suction cup on the top-center of your phone’s back and give it a gentle pull. You’ve got this!
Step 3
– Now that you’ve created a little opening in the back cover, gently slide the plastic opening tool into the seam of your phone.
– Glide the tool along the seam to break free the sticky adhesive holding things together.
Step 4
Heads up: Yanking too hard or fast on the suction cup might crack the back of your phone. Take it slow and steady!
– You’re making great progress! Now that the adhesive has been loosened, carefully pull back on the suction cup to remove the back panel of your phone – it’s like opening a little door to the inside of your device.
– The remaining adhesive should still be strong enough to keep your phone nice and secure when you put it back together. Just a heads up: once you’ve opened it up, the water resistance of your phone won’t be the same. But don’t worry, you’ve got this!
Step 5
– Alright, you’ve successfully popped off the back, and voilà—the battery is now in plain sight! You’ve unlocked access to the battery and its trusty connectors.
– Now, grab that plastic opening tool and with a gentle touch, carefully detach the connector from the motherboard.
– Using your fingers, peel away the remaining adhesive from the phone like a pro. You’ve got this!
Step 6
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently lift that white adhesive tape from the bottom of the battery. Take your time, we want to keep it nice and smooth!
– Now, using your fingers, continue peeling back the remaining adhesive tape from the battery. You’ve got this!
Step 7
Be careful! The flex cables are like delicate little noodles running down the side of your phone, right under the battery. They can get easily damaged, so make sure you only slide your spudger in the spots we’ve marked. You’ve got this!
– Gently glide that spudger along the right side of the battery, letting it work its magic to break free the adhesive holding the battery tight against the casing.
– Next, slip the spudger into the bottom-center area to give that adhesive a little extra nudge. Carefully lift the battery away from the phone by sliding the spudger vertically underneath and prying it up. It might take a bit of elbow grease since that adhesive is pretty determined!

Step 9
Removing the black housing from your phone can be a bit of a puzzle. Just keep on prying and gently pulling up on the housing, and it should come right off!
– Let’s get started! Use your trusty plastic opening tool to carefully pry the black plastic housing from the bottom and top. It’s located at the top right corner of your phone, so take your time and work your way around.
– Next, release the charging cover on the right side of your phone – it’s at the top. This should help the housing piece pop out easily. If it doesn’t, don’t worry, just gently coax it out.
Step 10
Keep your cool! Just peel away the copper tape that’s hugging the silver part of the motherboard. Leave the rest alone, and you’ll be golden!
– Peel back the copper tape hanging out at the top-middle of your phone using a plastic opening tool. Heads up—it’s got a serious grip thanks to some strong adhesive, so a bit of effort is totally normal.
– Next up, grab that trusty plastic opening tool and pop the connector loose by lifting it up. Don’t worry, the pop connector will still be clinging to the copper tape for now.
– Now, gently tug on the copper tape and that attached pop connector to free the back camera. It should pop right out like magic—no sweat!
Step 11
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and carefully nudge the red tape off the motherboard. You’ll find this pop connector chillin’ at the top right corner of the phone.
– Now, using your fingers, gently lift the pop connector to free the front camera. No need to wrestle—it should come out smooth as butter.
Step 12
Some images in this guide display the phone’s back cover taken off. If you’re just popping out the SIM card, there’s no need to take off the case.
– The Xperia Z’s SIM card hides in that little slot right above the power button—no labels, no fuss!
– Slide the cover gently to the left, like opening a secret door to your phone’s inner world.
Step 13
Handle that SIM card with care—nobody likes a bent or broken one! Be gentle and precise when popping it out or putting it in.
– Gently slide the SIM card and tray out of the phone, like you’re guiding a friend to the door after a fun visit.
Step 14
– Take out the two 3mm Phillips #000 screws, one located on the middle left and the other at the lower right of the motherboard. You’ve got this!
Step 15
Keep those three flex cable flaps upright and clear of the motherboard. Take it slow and steady—no one wants a torn flex cable on their hands!
– Carefully wiggle those three flex cables away from the motherboard. You’ll find them hanging out in the bottom right, bottom left, and top left corners of the motherboard, just waiting for a little attention.
Step 16
Keep that antenna lifted and clear of the motherboard, giving it some space to breathe!
– Gently pop off that antenna hiding at the bottom right of the motherboard using your trusty plastic opening tool. Easy does it—no need to rush, you’re doing awesome!
Step 17
It’s time to get a little aggressive! The motherboard is stuck to the phone with some serious adhesive, so be prepared to use some force to set it free.
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently but confidently pop the motherboard out of the phone case. Start from the right side where the back camera used to hang out.
– Carefully lift the section where the shiny silver part of the motherboard meets the green base board—it’s like peeling apart a PB&J, but with way more tech vibes.
Step 18
– Now, to put your gadget back together, just retrace your steps in reverse. Easy peasy!
– If you ever find yourself in a bind and need a helping hand, don’t hesitate to schedule a repair.
