Step-by-Step Guide: PlayStation 2 Slimline SCPH-750xx IR Sensor Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 8 Steps
Get ready to dive into this guide that’ll take you through the fun and simple process of expertly removing and reinstalling the IR sensor in your PlayStation 2 Slimline. Let’s make this repair journey smooth and enjoyable!
Step 1
– Power down your PlayStation 2 and gently unplug it from the power source. Before flipping it over, don’t forget to pop out the CD from the console. That way, everything stays safe and sound.
Step 2
Five of these feet are easy to spot, but the last one is hiding under the black void sticker on the back of the device.
For some versions of the console, like the PAL Version, you might not find this sticker. In that case, the foot or the screw should be easy to find.
– Find the six little feet hanging out at the bottom of the PS2.
Step 4
– Peel off that sticker and pop off the sixth foot—you’re doing great!
Step 5
– Once you’ve taken off all the feet, grab a Phillips #1 screwdriver and unscrew the six 4.0mm screws from the base of the PS2. You’re doing great!

Step 6
You might need to give those covers a little nudge to get them off. Just be gentle and watch out for those pesky plastic screw pins—they’re more fragile than they look!
– Alright, time to get those covers off! Start by gently lifting the side with the power cable and Ethernet port. Once that side’s up, move on to the opposite side and lift it to fully separate the two. It’s all about that smooth, steady pry—no rush!
Step 7
– Alright! If all went as planned, you should now be holding a fully freed-up plastic backing, exposing the inner workings of your PlayStation 2. Cool, right?
Step 8
– Spot that IR sensor on the motherboard? Sweet! Now, grab your trusty tweezers and gently pop off that blue/white ribbon connecting the IR sensor to the motherboard. Easy peasy!
