Xbox One Upper Case Replacement Guide – DIY Repair Tutorial
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 14 Steps
Get ready to swap out that worn-out upper case or simply take it off for some fun modding or painting! Let’s dive in and make your device look fresh again!
Step 1
– To get into your Xbox, you’ll need to carefully cut or peel away that tamper-evident tape. No need to stress—Microsoft can’t void your warranty as long as you keep everything intact. Enjoy the process!
Step 2
– Time to get started! Use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry up and remove the plastic vent surrounding the side USB port. It’s held in place by some pretty weak plastic clips, so start prying from the back and gently peel it out.
– The vent is pretty flexible, so don’t worry if it takes a little bit of wiggling to get it out. Just be patient and work your way around it until it’s free.
Step 3
You’ll find a little plastic tab that gives the Xbox’s front corner some extra strength.
– Gently push the tab straight back and pop it out like you mean it!
Step 4
Get ready to wrestle with a stubborn plastic clip that’s holding the two case halves together – it’s the first of many, so be prepared to use some elbow grease!
Keep that spudger in place until you’ve fully opened the case. These clips are super springy, so they might try to snap the case shut on you while you’re working – stay on your toes!
Step 5
The snug fit between the top and bottom parts of your Xbox is held together by a series of clips located at the back and along the sides. You’ve got this!
– Gently slide a plastic opening tool into the gap between the upper and lower case. This will help you pop the clip loose over the rear vent!
Step 6
– Keep gliding along the back of the Xbox, gently popping up those clips like a pro.

Step 7
Keep going! You’re almost there! Once you get to the edge of the back cover, the top part should be ready to come off. If not, take your handy-dandy plastic tool and carefully work it around the edge without the USB port to release the clips.
– Keep on popping those clips! A little tip: sliding the plastic opening tool along the clips might just make the job easier.
Step 8
Hold up there, partner! The upper case is still hooked up to the front panel button cable. We don’t want to go yanking it out just yet. Let’s keep it chill and follow the next steps.
Pop any remaining clips loose with the plastic opening tool. You got this!
Step 9
The front button cable has a special ZIF connector, so be sure to follow the next few steps carefully to disconnect it safely.
Step 10
– Gently grab the cable with tweezers and pull it straight out of the connector on the board – easy does it!
– Next, carefully remove the upper case to get to the good stuff.
Step 11
– Alright, champ! Time to put this bad boy back together. But if you’re still tearing things down, skip these steps and keep on truckin’!
– Grab that trusty spudger (you know, the flat end) and give those clips holding the front panel to the upper case a gentle nudge. Don’t be afraid to be a little assertive!
– Now carefully remove the front panel from the rest of the upper case. Easy peasy, right?

Step 12
– Time to swap out the top section of the upper case! Let’s get that looking snazzy again.
– Align those clips just right and give them a good press all around the edges to snap them back into place. You’re doing great!
Step 13
Step 14
The bottom edge of the front panel features some nifty plastic hooks that snugly latch onto the plastic hooks found on the front edge of the lower case. Keep it smooth and steady as you work through this!
– Now it’s time to put everything back together! Just retrace your steps from the disassembly phase—it’s as simple as pie.
– If you’ve hit a roadblock and need a hand, feel free to schedule a repair.
– You’ve got this! Your device will be back in action in no time.
