iPod Mini Headphone Jack Board Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 12 Steps
No sound coming through your headphones? Time to swap out that headphone jack and get your tunes back!
Step 1
Before you crack open your iPod, make sure that the hold switch is set to the locked position. It’s a simple step, but it’ll save you some headaches later!
Step 2
The top bezel is stuck on with some stubborn adhesive, so you might have to gently pry in a few spots to get it loose.
– Grab a small flathead screwdriver or a Jimmy and gently wedge it between the metal casing and the white plastic top. Give the top bezel a little nudge with the screwdriver to lift it up. Take care not to scratch or damage the soft plastic while you’re at it.
– For a smoother experience, warm up the adhesive with a hairdryer on low heat for a few seconds before you start. It’ll make things a bit easier.
Step 3
– Gently lift the top bezel off your device. A little nudge, and it should pop right off!
Step 4
– Gently slide a small flathead screwdriver or Jimmy into the gap between the metal casing and the white plastic bottom. Use the screwdriver to carefully lift the white plastic bottom bezel. Just be cautious and try not to scratch up the soft plastic with your tool.
Step 5
– Grab a small pair of snap ring pliers – they’re your best buddy for popping off that metal retaining bracket with ease!
– If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, a flathead screwdriver can also do the trick. Just slide it under the bottom bezel to gently pry out the metal retaining bracket. Start by pushing in those metal arms at the corners, then lift the bracket up like a pro!
Step 6
– Gently lift the metal retaining bracket out of the device. It’s like a little release party for your iPod—just give it a smooth lift and you’re good to go.
Step 7
– Grab a spudger or gently use the tip of your finger to carefully disconnect the orange click wheel ribbon from the logic board. Take your time and be gentle to avoid any tears. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 8
– Unscrew the two #00 Phillips screws that are holding the headphone jack in place. A couple of twists, and you’re one step closer to getting this thing fixed!
Step 9
Be gentle with the headphone jack board at the top of the iPod! The connection to the logic board is a bit delicate, so give it some love and care.
– Gently nudge the iPod out of its case by pressing on the logic board just below the click wheel.
Step 10
– Once you’ve nudged the logic board out enough, gently grab it on both sides of the display and smoothly slide the iPod the rest of the way out of its case.
Step 11
– Gently lift the battery away from the logic board and set it beside your iPod, giving yourself some room to work.
Step 12
– Grab a spudger and gently work your way under the headphone jack board to lift it away from the logic board. Focus on prying near the connector to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the board.
– Carefully lift the headphone jack board straight up off the logic board, keeping your movements gentle and controlled.
